Hospital Staff Appreciation

Ask anyone at Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital what keeps them going on a difficult shift, and chances are they will mention their team. The nurses, physicians, technicians, administrative staff, housekeeping crews, and every person in between — they show up every single day in service of this community, often under considerable pressure and always with compassion.

The Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital Foundation believes they deserve to feel that appreciation in return.

Twice each year, the Foundation hosts Hospital Staff Appreciation events to express gratitude in the most tangible way possible: by filling the hospital with warmth, celebration, and a generous spread of food and treats for the entire team.

The first is a week-long spring celebration, held each year during the second week of May. Over the course of the week, staff are treated to a rotating lineup of events — an Ice Cream Day in the afternoon, Taco Tuesday at lunch, a Mini Doughnut Truck mid-week, and a full Pancake Breakfast to close out the week. It is a celebration designed to bring a moment of joy to professionals who rarely have the opportunity to pause, and to remind every person on staff that their work is seen, valued, and deeply appreciated.

The second event takes place in December — a Holiday Appreciation Day that brings warmth and festivity to what is often the busiest and most demanding season in healthcare.

None of this would be possible without the generosity of the community. The majority of each Staff Appreciation Week is funded through contributions from local businesses and individuals who step up as sponsors. It is a meaningful example of Fort Saskatchewan coming together — local businesses investing in the people who care for their employees, their families, and their neighbours.

The response from hospital staff has been genuinely heartwarming. These events have become a highlight of the year for many, offering a rare occasion of collective celebration in an environment that can otherwise feel relentless. For the Foundation, witnessing the smiles on staff members' faces — knowing that a sincere gesture of gratitude has made a real difference — is among the most rewarding aspects of this work.
